April 13th Update
April 13, 2010
Good Morning AMY NW families. I hope that this note finds everyone safe and healthy. As you heard last week, Governor Wolf announced that all PA schools will be closed through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. The primary focus of Leaders across the country, including our Governor, remains the health, safety and welfare of their residents. The news is still disappointing, especially for our 8th graders that our finishing their middle school careers.
Students are required to continue to learn virtually, we will use online google classrooms to address virtual learning. Teachers understand the challenges this presents for parents, and I ask that you consider the challenges it presents for them as well. Please do the best that you can. The AMY NW staff miss the students very much and will continue to reach out via email, Remind, and Google classroom. Remote instruction is continuing in the following phases, which I have shared previously. April 13TH – April 17th – Learning Packet #2 that was distributed the end of March at grab and go locations and posted to the school district website. April 17th – May 1st is online review and enrichment. May 4th – June 12th will be online new instruction found in our teachers google classrooms, students will receive grades for these assignments.
For families that need to borrow a chrome book and missed Chromebook distribution, the district is determining a plan B for central pick up. Once the plan is determined I will share the plan via email, phone and the district website.
The news that schools are closed for the remainder of the year also raises questions that the school district doesn’t currently have answers to: if students have personal items as school, when can they come back to school to retrieve them? When will there be refunds for events that were cancelled, and so on? There are many unresolved and legitimate questions, with several requiring further guidance from the state. As they are determined, we will make sure we share those decisions with you once they are made.
I wish your families a wonderful week. Please continue to stay in, stay safe, and stay healthy. The AMY Northwest Community has been outstanding during this challenging time, thank you.
