Welcome to AMY Northwest

First Day of School Procedure:

Please meet our teachers and staff in the school yard behind the school building on August 25th before 7:30 am.  Teachers and staff will be stationed in the school yard to assist students in finding their homerooms.  At 7:30am, teachers will escort students into the building and into their classrooms.  If you arrive late and no one is in the school yard, please use the front door and head to the main office.

Welcome Letter from Principal Floyd

Dear Academy for Middle Years (A.M.Y.) Northwest families:

Welcome back to both our returning and new families!  Thank you for choosing our amazing school for your child’s education. I hope you are enjoying a relaxing summer and are ready to start a new and exciting school year. It is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for the first day of school on Monday, August 25th, 2025. We will meet all students in the school yard at the start of the day on the 25th.  In the event of rain, 7th and 8th graders will meet in the cafeteria, and 6th graders will meet in the Auditorium; they will check in and then head to homeroom. Please note that all students will receive their transpass on the first day of school before the end of the day.

We have truly missed having your students in the building and look forward to having them back in our halls. Our teaching, office, custodial, and cafeteria teams are all working hard to prepare for school opening, and everyone is looking forward to providing opportunities for our students to grow both academically and socially. Our teachers have attended conferences and training sessions to better help all students learn and grow. Our front office team is updating student files. Our hard-working custodians have spent the summer cleaning our school, and our cafeteria workers are preparing to serve your children delicious, healthy, and free breakfast and lunch each school day.

We’re also delighted to welcome a few new additions to our staff. We welcome Ms. Wilson to Science and Mr. Bernstein to Social Studies. We also welcome our Temple Teaching Residents who will work with our learning support students, as well as with some math and reading classes.

For those of you who would like to know your student’s homeroom assignment before August 25th, please feel free to check your student’s student portal. All homerooms should be posted by August 18th.  We will have staff on hand on Monday, the 25th, to assist those who haven’t yet found their homerooms.

There is one important form we need for new to AMY students to complete prior to returning to school. For our 6th graders and new to AMY NW students, we need to know if you have a Chromebook and if it works. Please complete this form by Thursday, August 21st-  https://forms.gle/y8DAF2WGsZXM84nf9

Uniform Reminder – Students may wear a light blue polo or any AMY NW top and any school-appropriate, solid color bottoms as a part of the AMY NW uniform. We will sell AMY NW t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, and sweatpants at school. Uniforms will be available the first week of school, as well as on August 14th, 15th, and 18th, between 9 am and 2 pm for purchase.

Be sure to visit the AMY Northwest website- https://amynw.philasd.org/ for important back-to-school information such as summer assignments and school supply lists. You can also find a list of vaccines your child will need to attend school on the school district website, www.philasd.org.  If you missed orientation, the slideshow of information is also posted on the AMY Northwest website. I also invite you to attend our Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 11th, from 6 pm to 8 pm.  This will be a great time to meet teachers and other families, and learn more about the new school year. Additionally, we will hold our Annual Title I Meeting before back-to-school night on September 11th, from 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm. We are looking forward to seeing everyone on the evening of the 11th.

We consider it a privilege to serve your students and families and look forward to working together to make this a great year of learning experiences.

Sincerely, Jodan Floyd

A.M.Y. Northwest Principal
