8th Grade Graduation Information

June 5, 2020

Good evening 8th grade families, I hope this note finds you in good health. I truly cannot believe that this will be one of my last messages 8th grade families. Please know that we are always there for you and the students should you need us in the future. We look forward to hearing about how they are doing in high school. I just have a quick note about Mondays program. We are going to ask that families not share the link unless it is needed. If needed, we ask that you only share the link with one other devise. For example students with split households. If there is a need for mom and dad in two different places to have the link that would be just fine. Beyond that we will post the recording after the live streaming on Monday. The reason for the limited sharing is that Google meet only allows for so many people to log in at the same time. Therefore to ensure our 8th graders and immediate family can view at 9am on Monday we are asking families to limit to one device logging in, two at the max in the case of different physical houses. Again we will post the recording after if you want to share with grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. We thank you in advance for your assistance so that we can ensure all 8th graders can access the meet.  Please reach out if there are any question. Take care and have a good weekend, Mrs. Floyd

Good Afternoon 8TH grade families,

I hope this note finds everyone safe and in good health. We are at that time of the year when we celebrate the 8th graders moving on to high school. While this is certainly a different situation than ever before we still want to acknowledge their moving up to high school. There is a notice posted in the 8th grade google classrooms with all the information for our virtual move up ceremony on June 8th at 9am. The link for the program can be found on the flyer. Please note that students do not need to dress up for the event, unless you would like them to do so. The program is pre-recorded. This week the 8th grade team will share some directions in their classrooms to help you have the best experience viewing the program. For example, they will share how to enlarge the viewing screen. We will email any certificates students receive after the ceremony. They will also be sent via postal mail in the next few weeks.

There will be a letter about 8th grade activity refunds on the AMY Northwest website, but I will highlight here as well. Refunds for money that was collected for events that are no longer happening due to COVID 19 will be distributed in the form of a check. We have worked with Wells Fargo to ensure that any family who wishes to cash the refund check will be able to do so at a Wells Fargo branch without any charge. Refunds will be mailed to your address on file. If you are worried that this address is incorrect, please contact Mrs. Blanco at lblanco@philasd.org to submit a change of address form. Because the reimbursement checks will be generated by each school, they cannot be issued until the Mayor and Governor have declared it safe for non-essential travel and our buildings are reopened to staff. We will inform you as soon as that occurs.

Looking forward to everyone enjoying the program on Monday. Please reach out of you have any questions.

Take Care,

Jodan Floyd

REFUND INFORMATION HERE

May 26, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On April 9, Dr. Hite shared the news that our school buildings would remain closed for the rest of the school year and that the school-sponsored social events you have been looking forward to all year, would be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The purpose of this communication is to provide you with information regarding reimbursement of monies paid by families and collected by the school for end of year activities in advance of COVID 19. We are committed to providing you with an appropriate refund as soon as it is possible to do so safely for staff and families.

Reimbursement Criteria                                                                                                                 There are certain items that were paid for in advance that may or may not qualify for reimbursement to families.  An item that would not qualify for reimbursement would be any item  specially ordered indicating the Class of 2020.

Monies that were collected for events that are no longer happening due to COVID 19 will be reimbursed. Examples of these events are trips and end of year luncheons. You will receive a refund for all parts of monies that were collected for these events.

Refund

Your school’s principal is working with our finance department to determine your refund amount.  Your refund will be repaid with a check from your school.

Timing

Because the reimbursement checks will be generated by each school, they cannot be issued until the Mayor and Governor have declared it safe for non-essential travel and our buildings are reopened to staff. We will inform you as soon as that occurs.

If you have questions and/or concerns, you can contact Mrs. Floyd at jnfloyd@philasd.org

Sincerely,

Jodan Floyd
