Uniform Policy

AMY Northwest requires that students wear the school uniform.  Images of all school pieces can be found HERE.   They may be purchased at FlynnO’Hara Uniforms or other stores that carry the colors required.  We do not require the uniform to have the AMY Northwest logo but do suggest that each student have one piece that shows the school name.

Please make sure your child comes to school dressed in the appropriate uniform daily.

Repeated violations of the uniform policy will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the sanctions listed in the School District Code of Conduct. Thank you for your cooperation.

Physical Education uniforms are required for PE days as listed in your students schedule.

These uniforms can be purchased at AMY throughout the school year.  The sweatshirt may be worn on non gym days during the winter months as part of daily uniform.

Attendance

The School District of Philadelphia is responsible for enforcing the compulsory school attendance laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and for properly recording student attendance and maintaining student records.

The School District of Philadelphia and AMY Northwest are dedicated to the academic achievement and success for all students. Regular school attendance is an integral part of that success. When students attend school on a daily basis, they will not only improve their academic skills but build a greater capacity for social and emotional growth as well.

Every child should attend school on time, every day. It does matter, as early as kindergarten. By middle and high school, poor attendance is a leading indicator of student dropouts. Developing the habit of exceptional attendance prepares students for success in a career as well as in life.

Excused and unexcused absences add up fast – and equal academic problems. Even sporadic absences matter. Just one or two days a month can add up to a chronic problem that affects a student’s success in the present and the future.  AMY Northwest strives for each student to have a 95% attendance, meaning no more than 9 days should be missed in a school year!

The policy of the School District requires that school-aged students enrolled in the schools of this District attend school regularly, on time, and for the whole school day in accordance with the laws of the State of Pennsylvania.

The educational program offered by this District is based upon the presence of the student and requires continuity of instruction and classroom participation.

A note signed by a parent/caregiver must be brought to school after each absence, indicating the dates and reasons for the absence.  Absences will be coded “unexcused” if a note is not provided by the parent or caregiver.
When a pupil is absent for three days due to illness, a written doctor’s note documenting the medical necessity for the absence must be brought to school unless the principal has verified the legitimacy of the absence through other means.
When possible, a parent is to notify the school if a pupil is to be absent for several days.
Every effort should be made to make-up work missed as a result of illness or other unexcused absence.
Work missed because of absence can lower academic marks.  Students are responsible for making up work missed as a result of suspension or other disciplinary action
